85 teams from 18 different nations have entered the BBQ competition, fighting for the title. Next to a trophy designed by a renowned German artist, sponsored by the EAFA (European Aluminium Foil Association e.V.), there is also a total of EUR 30.000 of price money up for grabs.
The BBQ Championships – a scene and industry gathering
This large-scale event is held on German soil for the second time, following the championship in Pirmasens in 2007. An event that has, in just a few years, turned into a favourite scene gathering. And it has turned into one of the most important industry gatherings too. The food scene meets here, on the site of the former horticultural show. Industry, commerce and gastronomy representatives use this audience-grabbing event as a welcome platform to present their products.
An exhibition for regional businesses
Around three tons of meat, more than one ton of chicken, 170 kg parsley and 1000 lettuces. These are just a few key data, illustrating the sheer amount of raw material that s required by the participating teams. The 85 participating teams are supplied with local produce. The meat comes from Eichenhof, the chicken from Wiesenhof and the vegetables for side dishes from the venue location, the consumer market chain Klaas+Kock. Any teams arriving without their own equipment are provided with BBQs from the German manufacturer Monolith. This mega-event receives international support by the family-run winery Gallo, from the Californian Modesto as well as the American ketchup giant Heinz.
